This tutorial gives you the instructions about what to do after sending your application off to an employer or recruiter.
This is a very simple, neglected trick. To succeed, you really should use this technique.
Follow up on the phone....most don’t bother (or are too nervous) and human nature says the employer will be impressed and feel more obliged to say yes to an interview.
Nobody likes to say no when in conversation. So stop hiding behind your inbox and make the call (a couple of days after your application).
How to structure the call
1: Introduce yourself and ask the employer for a few minutes. Use their name.
2: Check your application has been received.
3: Be engaging and specific in your discussion, use the points you highlight in your cover letter. Ask open questions (who, what, when, why, how).
4: Ask the employer for any questions they may have. Be prepared to answer.
5: Be polite and professional.
Most of all, in all communication with employers, recruitment consultants or anyone connected to the hiring process, show enthusiasm.
Take Away Points
1: Always place a call after sending your cover letter / application
2: Prepare for the call and follow a logical structure
